JANMASHTAMI PANJIRI PRASHAD AND PANCHAMRIT

Janmashtami is the celebration of birth of Shri Krishna who is the eight avatar of Lord Vishnu. Janmashtami is celebrated all over India especially in  Gokul, Mathura, Vridavan, Dwarka.
Lord Krishna was the eight son of Vasudev and Devki. His uncle was called Kans was the king of Mathura, he had ascended the throne from his father imprisioning him.The prophecy threatned him that he will be killed by the eight son of Devki.Kans locked the couple and killed the six sons.The seventh son was 'Balram' and transferred to Rohini. Just after the birth of Lord Krishna, Vishnu ordered Vasudev to take Krishna to Gokul where he could live safely.Thus Krishna lived in Gokul and returned to Mathura to kill kans and free his parents.

People celebrate Janamashtami by fasting, worshiping Krishna staying up all the night.Panchamrit and Panjiri Prashad is made as a offering for Janamashtami.



PANCHAMRIT

INGREDIENTS:-

  • FRESH YOGURT-2 CUPS
  • COLD MILK-1/2 CUP
  • SUGAR-1/4 CUP
  • HONEY- 1 TBSP
  • MAKHANE- 10-12
  • BASIL LEAF-10-12

PROCEDURE:-
  • Take a large pot and mix yogurt, milk, sugar and honey, dissolve them properly.
  • now cut makhane into 4 pieces and add to that mixture.
  • tear basil leaf with hand and add to the mixture.
  • now chill this mixture and it is ready to serve.

PANJIRI PRASHAD



INGREDIENTS:-
  • WHEAT FLOUR-1 CUP
  • DESI GHEE-1/4 CUP(or a little more)
  • POWERED SUGAR-1/2 CUP
  • MAKAHANE-15
  • CARDAMOM-2-3

PROCEDURE:-

  • Take flour in a bowl and sieve it.
  • take a pan on gas and on medium heat add desi ghee to it.
  • now add flour to it and roast it , carefully so that it should not burn.
  • when the raw smells goes and the flour is brown switch off the flame.
  • let it get cool.
  • cut the makhane into 4 -5 pieces and fry them in Desi ghee.
  • now mix sugar, makhane, and cardamom powder into the cooled flour.
  • this is Panjiri Prashad for offering.
